Practical exercise:

Find and prepare your own magical staff or wand from one of the sacred woods that has an affinity with your own magical persona. Ask permission from the tree and cut the branch as quickly as possible, using secateurs or a small saw … do not rip a branch from the tree and remember to leave a suitable offering in its place. Take the branch home and trim off any twigs before putting it away somewhere safe to dry. Once the wood is dry, you can decide whether to strip the bark and decorate to your own design, or leave it natural. Providing no one else has handled the staff (or wand) magical cleansing will not be necessary, as it will still carry the essence of the parent tree.
